Sewing Isolation Gowns

During the PPE shortages this past spring, I volunteered with a group of local sewists making hospital gowns to donate. The pattern we used was the Isolation Gown by Peek-A-Boo Pattern Shop. Not only is this pattern completely free, it’s easy to acquire. Simply download a digital file, print from your home printer and tape the pages together.

This sewing pattern is one that I think every sewist should download and add to their pattern library to have on hand. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. You need only a basic set of sewing skills and an afternoon to create this hospital gown.

Due to quarantine and supply shortages, we used materials we already had on hand to create our gowns. I had several old and vintage sheets that were just sitting around in my fabric storage. The full size sheets were just the right amount of fabric for me to make an XL sized gown. I’m sure the patients that wear these gowns will appreciate the cheerful vintage prints.

To save time, I used extra wide double fold bias tape to finish the necklines and create the sew-in ties on the back.
